A phlebotomy technician may be involved in a variety of healthcare settings, such as laboratories, blood banks, medical and diagnostic, and general medical and surgical hospitals. The responsibilities of a phlebotomy technician include drawing blood for testing, transfusion, donation or research, explaining procedures to patients and assisting in the recovery of patients with adverse reactions.
An electrocardiogram technician may perform tests on patients' pulmonary and cardiovascular systems for diagnostic, therapeutic or research purposes. EKG technicians may also perform or assist in electrocardiograms, cardiac catheterizations, pulmonary functions, lung capacity and similar tests.
